Mad about MAAD

Sold my hand-made flowers at MAAD(Market for Artist And Designers) @ Red Dot Museum on September 9th. I had less than 24 hours to prepare my shop concept as I submitted my application the evening before thinking it was for the Oct fair. When I received a call telling me I can join the fair the next day, I told them I can't as I had not started preparing anything, namecards, signs, tags so on. The organizer encouraged me to try it out and said it was very informal. I am so glad I did.

I met alot of creative and friendly people and gain some knowledge on how artists sell their product IRL. It isn't easy but very fulfilling. I had experience in retail as I had worked in a bakery. Hearing first-hand what people say about bread flavors you dreamt up is one of the best parts of the job for me. Similarly, despite the long hours, I really enjoyed interacting with customers. Seeing the joy on their faces when they purchase a product that I hand-sewn with love was the highlight of my time there.

I really have to thank the bf for coming down right after work to keep me company till 12am. He had to reschedule appointments so he could come down to support me, get me dinner and man my stall while i walked around checking the other shops out. I am so grateful to have him with me.

After the event, the friendly organizer came to chat and told me I did pretty well despite my initial reservations. It's wonderful that we have something like MAAD in Singapore to support local artists. The crowd was wonderful and it was serendipity for me, hope to attend the next one as well.
